Description: Centro Scuola e Cultura Italiana Columbus Centre is the principal provider of Italian language classes in Canada. Teachers guide each class using the most up-to-date educational storybooks, games, children's music, and videos from Italy. The basic goal of the programme is to promote interest and enthusiasm for the Italian language and culture among young people.

We offer the following programs for children and teens:

- Asilo Nido (Ages 2-4)

- Italian For Elementary School Children (Junior Kindergarten Through Grade 8)

- Italian For Teens (Ages 13+)

- Italian Through Traditional Dance (Ages 7-14)
Traditional Italian dances (like the Tarantella and the Pizzica) offer children the chance to learn about a charming aspect of Italian culture. Children will learn dance steps and routines in a group environment while also learning some basics of the Italian language.

- Italian Through Drama (Ages 7-14)
This course emphasizes creativity and imagination to write and perform plays in Italian. The goal is to advance Italian language learning by making it fun. Students will have the opportunity to appear in two performances: an adaptation of a pre-existing script, and an original group production.

- Italian Through Cooking (Ages 7-14)
Students will be taught and encouraged to speak Italian while using basic techniques to make delicious sauces, soups, pasta and risotto dishes. Simple homemade desserts and personal pizza will be introduced as well.

- New! Learning Italian Through Baroque Music And Art (Ages 8-14)
The instructor will work closely with the students to develop the basic technique of art and music as well as language skill. In the art component children will explore drawing, sketching, Florentine Lettering, use of water colour and acrylic. At the same time they will learn to play the recorder in an ensemble. Thye will perform music of the 15th, 16th, and 17th century. No Prior knowledge is necessary.

- Learning Italian Through Cartoons (AGES 10-14)
This course is designed to give students the opportunity to create their own cartoons while developing their knowledge of the Italian language. Students will learn the classic technique of drawing cartoons based on frame by frame sketching and rough animation. Students will study early animation films created in the 1900's as a model for their work. At the end of the course, students will create a similar short film of their cartoons of which will be recorded on DVD or VHS. Materials will be provided.

- Italian Through Song (Schola Cantorum Children's Choir) (Ages 9-14)
From O Sole Mio and Santa Lucia to That's Amore, Italian music remains popular throughout the world. Young people will love this choir class where they improve their pronunciation and vocabulary through songs. Children perform at Christmas and Spring Concerts as well as occasional festivals and events.

- Soccer And Italian (Ages 4-14)
This soccer programme includes an Italian language component with teachers who will focus on sports-related terminology that will captivate the students' attention, allowing them to use Italian in a fun environment. Participants will take part in a league tournament.
